Launch event summary
The launch meeting of the Alliance’s Stakeholder Working Group on Cybercrime brought together its members, other relevant civil society organizations, the private sector, academia, and the technical community with the representatives from UNODC, and UN Member States. The opening remarks highlighted the Alliance’s commitment to fostering close collaboration and stakeholder engagements on cybercrime-related mandates. The welcoming remarks provided a high-level overview of the negotiating process at the Ad Hoc Committee on Cybercrime, how stakeholders participated and informed the negotiations by providing substantive expertise on cybercrime, and the foreseen upcoming events and opportunities for stakeholder participation. The opening remarks on behalf of the UNODC Civil Society Unit and the Group of Friends for Multi-Stakeholder Participation in UNODC Matters outlined the importance of stakeholder feedback to the implementation of the Cybercrime Convention and how civil society organizations, the private sector, academia, and the technical community can engage with UNODC and Members States on the topic of cybercrime. The Coordinator of the Stakeholder Working Group on Cybercrime introduced the Group’s objectives, activities, and modalities. Stakeholders’ inputs offered perspectives on how the Group can further support organizations’ participation in and engagement with cybercrime-related issues.
