Registration for the Ad Hoc Committee for a new UN convention on countering the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes

About the Ad Hoc Committee

Through its resolution 74/247, the General Assembly decided to establish an open-ended ad hoc intergovernmental committee of experts, representative of all regions, to elaborate a comprehensive international convention on countering the use of information and communications technologies for criminal purposes, taking into full consideration existing international instruments and efforts at the national, regional and international levels on combating the use of information and communications technologies for criminal purposes, in particular the work and outcomes of the open-ended intergovernmental Expert Group to Conduct a Comprehensive Study on Cybercrime.

Representatives of non-governmental organizations that are in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, in accordance with Council resolution 1996/31 of 25 July 1996 (as per operative paragraph 8 of General Assembly resolution 75/282)

The stakeholders listed in operative paragraph 8 of General Assembly resolution 75/282 may register to participate in the first session of the Ad Hoc Committee through an official letter duly signed containing the names, titles and email addresses to cybercrimeAHC@un.org by 16 January 2022, 6:00 p.m., New York time, at the latest.

The letter should clearly indicate the name and email address of the delegate that will participate online, so that they may receive a link to join the platform. Only one speaker link will be provided to each stakeholder.

In addition, a limited number of seats are available for these stakeholders, which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Stakeholders that wish to participate in person should also indicate this in their registration letter. Only one delegate per organization may be in the conference room at any one time.

Representatives of other relevant non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions and the private sector (as per operative paragraph 9 of General Assembly resolution 75/282)

The stakeholders listed in operative paragraph 9 of General Assembly resolution 75/282 that have applied to participate in the Ad Hoc Committee, through the call for applications, will receive confirmation of their participation once the Committee has made a final decision on this matter under its agenda item 2 c) on “Final decision on the list of representatives of other relevant non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions and the private sector.” Therefore, participation of these stakeholders is subject to the approval of the Committee on 17 January (according to the tentative schedule of work of the Committee).

As the confirmation of participation will be sent after the first session has started, for the first session of the Committee, the stakeholders listed in operative paragraph 9 of General Assembly resolution 75/282 will only be able to participate online.

In order to receive a speaker link, the stakeholders listed in operative paragraph 9 of General Assembly resolution 75/282 that have already applied through the call for applications may register to participate in the first session of the Ad Hoc Committee through an official letter duly signed containing the names, titles and email addresses to cybercrimeAHC@un.org by 16 January 2022, 6:00 p.m., New York time, at the latest. Only one speaker link will be provided to each stakeholder. The speaker links will be distributed after a final decision by the Committee.
