High-level Event to commemorate the second International Day for the Prevention of and Fight against All Forms of Transnational Organized Crime
The High-level Event will feature the presence of H.E. Mr. Alexander Van der Bellen, Federal President of Austria, H.E. Mr. Sergio Mattarella, President of the Republic of Italy, and Ms. Ghada Waly, Executive Director of UNODC, who will deliver inaugural statements.
This year’s International Day commemoration marks the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the UNTOC and its Protocols against Trafficking in Persons and the Smuggling of Migrants, as well as the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of its Protocol on Firearms. This milestone commemoration offers a unique opportunity to take stock of progress made in the global fight against transnational organized crime, honour those who have devoted their lives to advancing the anti-crime agenda, and renew commitments to the effective implementation of the Convention and its Protocols.
To conclude the commemoration, the exhibition entitled: “The Legacy of Falcone and Borsellino” will be inaugurated in the VIC Rotunda. Refreshments will be offered thanks to the support of the Permanent Mission of Italy.
