The Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice will welcome Paul Raffile, a speaker with rare depth, clarity, and purpose, to speak on the horrifying and overlooked crime of sextortion.

The event title, “Now You See Them. Now You Don’t,” is a tribute to teenage victims, who often disappear into silence, shame, and invisibility. It also serves as a painful reminder that despite many attempts to improve laws and hold perpetrators and platforms accountable, progress remains too slow to prevent new victimisation or provide justice.

You may recognise Paul from the newly released Hulu and Disney+ documentary “Hey Beautiful: Anatomy of a Romance Scam,” where he details his investigation into romance scams that left hundreds of women emotionally devastated and financially ruined. He also played a critical role in uncovering the criminal networks behind the so-called Yahoo Boys, scammers who build fake identities online and exploit victims on a massive scale.

Paul’s work has exposed the magnitude of financially driven sextortion schemes that target young people online. He has spent the past few years examining how these crimes play out across popular social media platforms and gaming environments, where perpetrators gain trust to manipulate, groom, and blackmail minors into sharing private content, only to demand money under threat. The pressure on these victims is unimaginable, and sadly, many have taken their own lives rather than risk exposure or seek help. Despite the increasing number of sextortion-related harms, many victim reports are dismissed, ignored, or never even filed.
